Part Time Logistics Intern
Overview: Part time personnel will assist in all aspects of day to day operations across both truckload and intermodal divisions. Daily duties will include order entry, track and trace, dispatch, and customer service.
24 hours per week (paid)
Shift: Saturday 0700 to 1900 and Sunday 1900 to Monday 0700
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Track and Trace – Track loads in transit to insure on time delivery.
- All customers
- Intermodal – Watch pickup and deliveries and track in transit as necessary
- Highway – Track all loads for status updates and update to customers
- Incorporate SP ONP tracking procedures
- Appointment scheduling for intermodal and highway loads.
- Specific to Heinz but would encompass other customers as needed
- Order entry
- Assist dispatch with order entry across all customers
- Customer support
- Address incoming customer service calls and emails in a timely fashion
- POD collection for freight forwarders
- Streamlite
- Assist with driver calls and customer support during the week
- Provide dispatch and tracking support on Saturday
Secondary Job Responsibilities:
- Dispatch – Train with dispatch group to provide support during busy periods and on the weekends
- Respond to various tenders sent during the weekend
- Loadboards – Learn to work all available loadboards and book freight accordingly to defined procedures
- Billing – Train with intermodal group to learn rail billing to assist with day to day needs
- Basic report creation – OCC updates to SP, etc
Skills / Traits:
- Exposure to transportation industry and various modes of shipping a plus
- Intermodal experience a definite plus
- Customer service experience with focus on written and verbal communication
- Sense of urgency and ability to prioritize requests
- Microsoft Excel

Position Description: Logistics Intern
The intern will be introduced to a number of job responsibilities that a freight forwarding company requires. Primarily the candidate will assist with a project rollout for approximately 2000 computer hardware shipments going to a nationally known bank’s branch offices. Responsibilities will include entering the shipments into our computer system, some dock work (identifying and labeling the shipments), routing the shipments, and shipment follow up to insure correct and timely delivery. Additionally the candidate will be introduced to our international air and ocean group and our domestic truckload and LTL services group. Work hours would be Monday thru Friday from 9:00 AM to approximately 12:00 – 1:00 PM
Desired Characteristics:
- Basic Computer knowledge – comfortable with Excel.
- Customer service capabilities – will be working on the phone with customers and service providers.
- Positive attitude to learning and enjoy an ever changing work environment.

Salem Stones is currently seeking candidates interested in a part-time Logistics Operations Analyst Internship. This is a paid internship opportunity. The position is available immediately. While the immediate internship opportunity is part-time, Salem Stones seeks candidates eligible for full-time employment beginning mid-June. Salem Stones is seeking candidates that can work a minimum of 10-15 hours a week until mid-June. Beginning mid-June, the position becomes full time for a period of 10-12 weeks. While it is our desire to find our next full-time Logistics Coordinator from this internship, continued employment beyond the 10-12 weeks in the summer is contingent upon performance in the position. The part-time weekly work schedule is flexible and can be developed around candidate availability. The full-time work schedule will be Monday-Friday, 8:30 am – 5:30 pm. The position is housed at our offices located at 4637A Poth Road in Whitehall. The position reports to Lenin Kailasammani, Owner of Salem Stones.
The selected candidate will contribute to the transportation and distribution of our granite monuments and memorials originating from China and India to our U.S. warehouses (Georgia and Ohio) to their final destinations (our network of retailers and cemeteries). Additional responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
* Coordinating Inbound and Outbound Logistics
* Managing import containers by working with network of freight forwarders
* Managing domestic shipments with Less Than Truckload and Truckload carriers
* Providing visibility to the in-transit goods from overseas
* Implementing and managing cost control measures (e.g. demurrage fee reduction, intra/inter freight costs, etc.)
